The city’s growth continues steadily on the upswing. In 1911, Chula Vista encompassed
an area of only six square miles. By 1961, the city had expanded to 19 square miles, and since then has blossomed into its
present 52 square miles.
In half a century, Chula Vista has experienced a population explosion, with more than 178,000
people enjoying the benefits of Chula Vista as their home today. Fifty years ago, the city’s population was 1,718.
